The Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025 is here, and once again, Tim Cook and crew are about to take the stage at Apple Park in sunny Cupertino.
The keynote is mere hours away, but as usual, the rumor mill has been grinding overtime. Buckle up for a new iOS, a fresh coat of paint for your gadgets, and well, maybe not much more.
Let’s start with the bright, shiny bits. Apple’s iOS is getting a makeover, and by the sounds of it, it’s all about “liquid glass.”
Apparently, the company took one look at the Vision Pro’s interface and said, “Let’s just do that for everything.” So, expect your iPhone to look like it’s been dipped in molten glass and then cooled to an ethereal glow.
Maybe those app icons will now hover like delicate soap bubbles , because who doesn’t want their phone to look like a modern art installation?
As for the Apple Pencil, word on the street is it’s getting an upgrade. So if you’re one of the three people still using it to draw fruit baskets in Notes, rejoice! AirPods are also rumored to get some love, likely smarter noise canceling and maybe a more polite Siri to whisper sweet nothings in your ear.
But let’s address the elephant in the room: artificial intelligence. While Google and Microsoft are shoving AI into everything from your fridge to your shoelaces, Apple seems to be taking a more, shall we say, leisurely approach.
Apple Intelligence, that big, shiny system we met last year? It’s still, well, sort of on vacation. Meanwhile, Google Gemini is already cozying up to iPhone users, hinting that Apple might just shrug and let Google’s AI do the talking.
Of course, there are rumors of AI-crafted playlists in Apple Music and maybe even an AI DJ who will do everything but scratch real vinyl. That’s neat, if you’re still listening to music in the Apple ecosystem and not just yelling at your smart speaker to “play something cool.”
But will Apple pull a surprise AI rabbit out of its hat this year? Don’t bet your AirPods on it.
Early whispers suggest this WWDC is more about smoothing out the look of iOS and giving developers some fresh toys to play with, rather than dropping mind-blowing new AI features. As for Siri? She’s still working on finding her voice, apparently. Maybe next year, Siri.
So, WWDC 2025 is shaping up to be a show of style, and not so much substance. A glossy, glassy new design to freshen up your phone and maybe a few fun gadgets along the way.
Just don’t expect Apple to jump back into the AI race with both feet, at least not today. We’ll be here to see if Apple has any surprises up its sleeve, but if not, at least our devices will look fancy while we wait.
