Microsoft AI is opening a new AI hub in London to drive pioneering work on language models and infrastructure

Microsoft recently announced the creation of Microsoft AI, a new organization focused on advancing consumer AI products and research, including Copilot. Microsoft AI is opening a new AI hub in London to drive pioneering work on language models and infrastructure, collaborating with AI teams across Microsoft and partners like OpenAI.

Jordan Hoffmann, an AI scientist and engineer with experience at Inflection and DeepMind, will lead the new AI hub in London. The hub will be based in Microsoft’s London Paddington office and aims to harness the vast pool of AI talent and expertise in the U.K.

Microsoft AI plans to make a significant, long-term investment in hiring the best AI scientists and engineers for the new hub.

Microsoft has announced a £2.5 billion investment to upskill the U.K. workforce for the AI era and bring advanced GPUs to the country by 2026.

Updates on Microsoft AI’s progress in pushing the boundaries of AI possibilities and extending benefits across the U.K. are expected.

Job openings will be posted in the coming weeks and months, targeting individuals passionate about impactful AI work and continuous learning.

The decision to establish the hub in the U.K. reflects the country’s commitment to advancing AI responsibly and driving investment, innovation, and economic growth.

The Microsoft AI London hub complements existing Microsoft presence in the U.K., including the Microsoft Research Cambridge lab.

“We are thrilled to embark on this journey of innovation in the U.K.,” remarked Jordan Hoffmann. “The rich ecosystem of talent and resources here presents an unparalleled opportunity to push the boundaries of what’s possible with AI.”

The establishment of the Microsoft AI London hub marks a strategic addition to the company’s existing presence in the U.K., including the renowned Microsoft Research Cambridge lab.

“We believe in the U.K.’s potential to lead the way in responsible AI development,” noted a Microsoft spokesperson. “Our investment underscores our dedication to fostering a culture of innovation and driving economic growth in partnership with the U.K. government, business community, and academia.”
