Nvidia Surpasses Apple, Becomes Second Most Valuable Company Worldwide

Nvidia, the renowned chipmaking giant, has reached a new milestone, becoming the second most valuable company globally. On Wednesday afternoon, Nvidia’s market capitalization surged to $3.01 trillion, edging past Apple, which stands at $3 trillion.

This significant leap places Nvidia just behind Microsoft, which maintains the top spot with a market cap of $3.15 trillion.

Nvidia’s dominance in the AI sector, particularly with its flagship H100 chip, has been a major driver of its increasing market value. The company’s financial performance has been exceptional, reporting a staggering $14 billion in profit recently, primarily due to robust sales of its AI chips.

This growth trajectory saw Nvidia surpass the $1 trillion mark in May 2023 and soar past $2 trillion by February of this year, outpacing tech giants Amazon and Alphabet.

Currently, Nvidia’s stock is priced at over $1,220 per share. However, the company has announced a stock split scheduled for June 7th, a move likely aimed at making shares more accessible to a broader range of investors.

Nvidia’s grip on the AI chip market is formidable, holding between 70 percent and 95 percent of the market share, according to CNBC.

The company has ambitious plans to further consolidate its market position by launching a new AI chip annually. The upcoming Blackwell B200 GPU, expected later this year, marks the beginning of this strategy.

As Nvidia continues to innovate and lead in the AI chip industry, its market valuation and influence are set to grow, further shaping the landscape of global technology.
